August of 2021 was extremely difficult. I have really fought a battle against fear and terror. Let me assure you, fear and terror are two different entities. Nothing has been logical in a worldly sense, nothing has gone the way I thought it would, nothing has been as I expected.
A podcaster I listen to said, “When you are standing in faith for something, you are not standing on solid ground in the natural.” I can attest that IS TRUTH.
She went on to speak about Peter, when he walked on the water to meet Jesus. As long as his eyes were on Jesus, he was fine. When he looked at the circumstances around him, in this case the stormy seas and the water beneath his feet, he started to sink. She also said that the Lord once told her, “Faith and fear displace each other.” Meaning, if you are afraid, then there is no faith. If you remain in faith, fear cannot take over. (link to this podcast is below, if you'd like to listen)
I also experienced this firsthand. Fear (and terror) caused me many tears and sleepless nights and hair loss! When I spoke out in faith, when I set my eyes on Jesus, then my mind and my heart settled down.
To walk by faith, you really must set aside the flesh and like everything else, it’s easy in theory but difficult in practice. I know what my bank account looks like in the natural, I’m not blind, but I KNOW My God has it all in His hands. My God has supplied thus far, and He will continue to do so, even though His supply doesn’t look the way I expected it to look.
To walk by faith, I have to lay down those things I relied upon in the past. I used to rely on my good paycheck from the VA. I don’t have that anymore. I have a part-time job at a gym, and the pay is not anywhere near what I was used to. However, I know My God pays better than anyone on earth can pay!
I used to rely on myself for what I needed and wanted. Now, I must rely on Him. Let me just say right now: it’s EASY to say you are relying on Him, but are you really? I can honestly say, when there’s no money coming in and there’s no paycheck for weeks and the accounts are negative and you really are planning on what to do when you have to live in your car, that is a scary time. It’s very easy for fear to jump in and take hold over your mind. To stand in faith really is a battle. It can certainly be a long battle and either you’re going to conquer that fear with faith, or you're going to be defeated by fear.
The Lord reminded me to read the story of Abraham. In Genesis 12, God tells Abram to pack up and move, and He does not tell Abram where is exactly, just “to a land I will show you.” Once Abram finally gets to the land of Canaan, there’s a famine in the land. They couldn’t stay, they had to go to Egypt. The lesson here: even when you do exactly what the Lord has told you to do, it doesn’t mean everything will be rosy. There may still be, and probably will be, famine in the land.
If you read the entire story of Abraham, you see that the only piece of the Promised Land he ever actually owned was Sarah’s grave. He never saw the fulfillment of God’s promise regarding his fathering of a nation in his own lifetime. Yet, because he believed God and did as God instructed, through Abraham, God was able to bring about the Salvation of the world. Does that mean God’s plan of redemption through Jesus could not have happened had Abram refused the call? No, I believe God still would have used someone else, but I cannot imagine how different our entire history would be!
As my bible commentator wrote: “Obedience to God does not mean that we will never encounter serious problems and trials. (1) Abram had barely arrived at his destination when he faced bitter disappointment. His problems included a barren wife (11:30), separation from his family (12:1), and a famine that was bringing him to starvation and driving him from the land. (2) As Abram’s example teaches, believers who are seeking to serve God and obey His word must not think it strange if they encounter great obstacles, hardships and problems. It is often God’s way with those whom He has called to obey Him. In such cases we must go forward with obedience and trust that God is still working on our behalf to accomplish His purpose.”*
In my own life, just since July 31, the obstacles have been many. The hardships and problems have been many. I still don’t have a place to live. I’ve moved to a cheaper motel, but I’m not living in my car! (If it comes to that, I know God will see me through.) I haven’t found an apartment yet, part of the issue is that most won’t accept my dog (she’s an elderly Pit) and those that would allow her, do not have openings until October (or else the rent is too high). At this time, there is no money in my bank account for deposits or fees or rent. I know that God will supply. He promised in His Word, and He ALWAYS carries out His promises.
When He told me to move to a different motel, He said it would be a while before I got an apartment. He also said concerning this place, that no, it wouldn’t be as nice as the last one, but more affordable and closer to my job. He said the road would continue to be hard, but that’s not just a message for me. ALL who call Him Lord are going to suffer, IF they really choose to obey His word and separate themselves from the world. Things are changing rapidly in the earth, He is coming soon.
Reread the parable of the 10 virgins in Matthew 25. They ALL fell asleep waiting for the bridegroom. Remember though, five had plenty of oil in their lamps and five did not. The five who did not, called Him Lord (vs11). I don’t believe anyone would call Jesus Lord if He was not their Lord, at least at one time.
Keeping plenty of oil means doing what He says to do in His Word: obey His commandments, be holy, lay down the cares of this life, take up your cross and follow Him, walk by faith, keep your eyes on Him, be in the world but not of it, seeking His Kingdom and storing your treasures in Heaven. In Matthew 24:45-51, He says the faithful servant who is about the Master’s work when He returns is rewarded, but the one who says, “Nah, He’s not coming back yet,” that servant will be punished for eternity.
If you’re like me, then you have heard All. Your. Life. about the Lord’s return, that this is the “end times” that He could return at any second. I recall hearing that as a child in the 80's, and now it’s 2021. You could say, well, He hasn’t come yet and people have been preaching it all my lifetime. As a podcaster I listen to once said, “The bigger the event, the more time God spends warning us about it.”
He began warning about the Messiah’s first advent when He kicked Adam and Eve out of the Garden. He’s been warning about the second advent also since that time. So, if He has spent approximately 5,000-6,000 years or so of human history to warn about the Messiah’s second coming, it must really be BIG.
We, His people, the 10 virgins, have all fallen asleep. The time to wake up is now. Make sure your lamp is filled with oil and you are about the Master’s business. Reread His Word, He is VERY clear on what is sin, and what is not. Just because He forgave your sins years ago when you got saved, does NOT mean you are sinless, now. I know I am not. I repent daily. We must all repent daily. I pray and seek Him and read His word and listen to preaching and teaching to see how I can do my part and improve. That’s what He is looking for, a people doing their part. He is God, He will do the rest of the work in your life, you just have to be willing.
Sin is sin. Everyone likes to say that God is the same yesterday, and today. Well, the God of yesterday punished His people when they sinned. He will do the same, today. Please have eyes to see: Judgement is already falling upon the earth, and it is certainly evident here in America. God has lifted His hand off this nation. You can argue that statement, but I ask you to look around and compare the last 21 years to the 1900's. I can remember life in the 90's, and I remember my childhood in the 80's. Things really are different, and not for the better.
Whether or not you agree with me, really doesn't matter. Do you agree with God? Do you agree with His word? Agreeing with His word, means you MUST accept ALL of it. The hard parts, along with the warm and fuzzy ones. It means you really have to accept that sin in your life separates you from Him. That yes, a Christian can sin. A believer can hold a grudge and separate themselves from God’s forgiveness. Jesus said so.
Please, examine your life. Is there anyone you haven’t been able to forgive? You don’t have to feel forgiveness, to forgive. You just have to choose to forgive, say out loud that you choose to forgive __ for ___ and then ask God to remove all negative feelings and replace them with His love, mercy, grace, forgiveness, peace, joy, etc. Then pray for that person, especially if they are unsaved.
This forgiveness includes forgiving yourself. The Holy Spirit once said to me, “Forgive all who have sinned against you, even when that sinner is yourself.”
Is there a sin you can’t let go of? Are you afraid of being alone without family or a significant other? The Lord once said to me, “You feel alone because you cannot feel a physical presence next to you.” He has also said, “I am with you, always.”
Recognizing His constant presence is part of understanding that walking by faith and not by sight business. I can’t see Him with my physical eyes, I cannot touch Him with my physical hands, but that does not mean He is not here with me, now. I cannot rely on what my limited five senses tell me, I must rely on what I see and hear and feel in the spirit realm.
Give everything over to Him. He won’t be angry with you. Give Him your fears, your pain, your chains, the lies you’ve told, everything you are currently depending on as well as everything you need and want. He WILL walk you through every difficult moment, but you really do have to give it to Him. He really must be your shepherd and even though the valley is deep and dark and fearsome, He will not leave you all alone.
Look at Ephesians 3:14-21, if you’re not feeling very strong or brave. Ask God to strengthen you with His Spirit. Ask Him for His help in being rooted and grounded in love, to understand the breadth and length and depth and height of His love and ask to be filled with all the fulness of God. 14-21 is Paul’s prayer for the people of the church of Ephesus. You can use that prayer for yourself.
Please, please don’t miss out on Him and what He has for you, just because things look too scary or too big or too hard. Repent for having little faith and ask for bigger faith. Getting bigger faith is not easy, but what is more important? The easy road, or the one that leads to Him saying, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant"?
Hold on, my friends. Wake up, trim your lamps and be sure you are about the Master's business. Get your life in order. Keep your eyes on Jesus. God bless you.
